Janine Sagris

Janine Sagris , DVM, CERTIFIED Veterinary Laser Fellow

Dr. Janine Sagris grew up on a small farm in Wilson County, NC. She moved to Raleigh, NC to attend North Carolina State University. In 1994, she earned a Bachelors of Science in Zoology, with a minor in Genetics and a minor in Microbiology. She went on to attend North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. While there, she was active in the International Veterinary Student’s Association. She represented NCSU at several international veterinary student conferences. After serving as Treasurer for the parent International Veterinary Student Association, based in Utrecht, The Netherlands, she organized and hosted the 1998 IVSA Conference at NCSU. During undergrad and veterinary school she performed cancer research at the National Institutes of Health and Environmental Sciences as well as at the NCSU-CVM. This research culminated in a publication in the peer-reviewed journal Anti-Cancer Research. Upon graduation from veterinary school in 1998, Dr. Sagris was recognized with a Clinical Proficiency Award and an Excellence in Anesthesia Award.

Dr. Sagris began her career as an associate at a small animal veterinary hospital in north Raleigh, NC. This wonderful opportunity provided her with many independent surgery skills and a great foundation of veterinary medical and client communication skills. Following that, she worked as a relief veterinarian at many veterinary practices in central and eastern North Carolina. Dr. Sagris honed her flexibility and adaptability to many different; business styles, levels of medical diagnostics, socio-economic classes and varying numbers of support staff while maintaining high-quality recommendations for the clients and their pets. She recognized the need to educate the client about the best care for their beloved pet and then work with the client by respectfully implementing the procedures for which the owners are able to proceed. After several years, she joined an excellent small animal practice in Cary, NC. This position fine-tuned her skills to investigate elusive medical cases until a definitive diagnosis and treatment were implemented.

Dr. Sagris pursued additional training in veterinary laser procedures. She joined the Veterinary Surgical Laser Society and attended numerous lectures and hands-on laboratories using CO2 and diode lasers beginning in 2003. In June 2006, Dr. Sagris sat for the laser certification exam. She is one of a few veterinarians in the country who have passed that exam and have obtained official certification by the Veterinary Surgical Laser Society with the American Veterinary Medical Association.

In May 2008, Dr. Sagris decided to rebalance family and career. She formed a house-call practice, Mobile Laser Veterinary Services under the corporation, Sagris Services, PA.

Dr. Janine has been married to her supportive husband, Chris Sagris, since 1992.  They have 2 wonderful children, Alex (2001) and Nicole (2002), 2 dogs (Chopper & Myla) & a corn snake (Slithery).  Her family enjoys camping, swimming, dancing, piano, art, reading, and playing video/computer games.  Janine is a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.  She tries to live up to the morals and virtues of the Christian faith.

It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  8 Love never fails.

Amy Long , Veterinary Technician / Receptionist

I was born and lived in York, PA till 7years of age when we moved to Newport News, VA due to a family job transfer. I have always had a love for animals since I was very young. I was always bringing home something to be nursed back to health or a stray that just had to stay. Growing up I always had pets; dogs, cats, horses, snakes, lizards, ferrets and various pocket pets. I spent all of my free time growing up in the barn. I breed and delivered both of my mare’s foals. I enjoyed raising and breaking the foals. I have shown western and speed classes, excelling in Barrel racing with my horses. I was very active in the local 4-H club.

Through the years I have worked in various veterinary or animal care settings and absolutely enjoyed them all. These areas ranging from veterinary hospitals both small animal and equine, Bush Gardens Williamsburg petting zoo and Clydesdale horses, a barn/farm, a pet store, and pet sitting. I was torn between my love of animals and a growing human medical field. After high school I attended classes at the local collage then went on to graduated from Tidewater Tech with an MA in human medicine. After graduating I began working in a chiropractic and therapy office then on to a five doctor family practice. I loved the fast pace and the level of connection formed with the patients. I stayed there for several years when I decided my heart was definitely in veterinary medicine. I moved to Apex, NC in 2002 to attend CCCC Veterinary Medical Technology classes. After school I moved to Raleigh and finally settled in Durham with my long time boyfriend Ron, our son Jacob (2010), 2 dogs and 4 cats.

When I came to NC I worked in a clinic in Cary that provided a wonderful learning atmosphere full of opportunity. I worked there for 7 years until I moved to Durham. After becoming pregnant I reunited with Dr. Janine Sagris whom I had worked with at the previous Cary Clinic. She offered me an amazing opportunity to stay home with my son and work for her practice.

I enjoy working in veterinary medicine. There is always an opportunity to learn and hone my skills. I take pride in my position and my ability to provide quality customer service for the client as well as being an advocate for the patient, our pets.
